INTO Press Release: Teachers Unite Over Budget Cuts
Tuesday, 16 December 2014
Gerry Murphy, Northern Secretary of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), said:
Hundreds of teachers across the North have joined forces with their non-teaching colleagues to demonstrate their disgust and opposition to the proposed education budget and cuts that will ensue.
Two meetings organised by INTO in Derry and Newry yesterday evening were extremely well attended and Mr Murphy speaking at Newry said:
The level of public support for the campaign to voice our opposition to the budget has been amazing. The anger of the public is clearly demonstrated by the engagement of local politicians and the attendance at these meetings. The mix of attendees has included Parents, Governors, Principals, Vice Principals, Class room assistants, support staff and their professional representatives.”
Mr Murphy concluded;
That further meetings are planned for Omagh tonight with a finale in the Holiday Inn, in Belfast on Thursday evening. This will add greater momentum to a cause that has obviously sparked furious anger across the entire community. It is a campaign that the INTO is proud to be part of and to lead.
