Bulletin 15 Latest on Cuts

All teachers will now receive the 2.3% salary increase in September.  This pay award for 2010 /11 is the final part of a three year pay agreement.  The Government has decreed that there will be a pay freeze for teachers and public sector workers for the two-year period 2011 / 2013.

More problematic is the Tory demand that the education budget is reduced by a whooping 25% over the next four-year period.  This has the potential to be disastrous for children’s learning and teachers’ and classroom assistants’ jobs.

With school budgets increasing this year only by 1.9%: salary increases by 2.3% and inflation at 3.5% problems are looming.

Education administration is a mess.  INTO calls on our politicians to agree the early establishment of ESA to ameliorate the worst effects of the Con / Dem cuts.

Members should button-hole their MLAs to get this message across to them.  Sitting on our hands is not an alternative.

Enjoy the summer!
