Launch of Mencap Spellathon
Spellathon (www.spellathon.net) is a global project that will be promoted through schools and colleges around the world. Stephen Fry fronts the applications on mobiles, PCs, laptops and whiteboards.
Stephen Fry said “This is just about the best integration of imagination, education, technology inclusiveness and fun that I’ve ever encountered. Very proud to have been involved in it, even in the smallest way.”
The project offers numerous benefits:
Improving English spelling standards in the UK and abroad
An easy and fun way to practice spelling and improve national literacy standards
Other educational benefits eg free teaching resources for schools
Free to download and no minimum sponsorship to be raised
The funds raised will support a good cause - Mencap’s work with people with a learning disability.
Schools, colleges, universities and students unions get back 25% of what they raise.
Players will be invited to take part in the Spellathon Global Championships in March 2012, with fantastic prizes and leaderboard glory up for grabs.
