INTO Welcomes Publication of Anti Violence Guidance
Thursday, 20 November 2008
Tony Carlin, INTO Senior Official, speaking today at a seminar in
the Hilton Hotel Templepatrick on the subject of Teacher Abuse, said
"The development of this guidance is a vital step and will hopefully
signal the beginning of a process where Principals and teachers can
begin to feel confident that they will be safe in their schools. INTO
also hope that the guidance will ensure that assaults are properly
recorded and reported to the relevant statutory agencies." Mr Carlin continued "INTO believe that this guidance combined with
commitment to assess the overall violence against teaching staff and
the development of an awareness campaign on this important issue will
begin to reassure professional teachers that they can work in a safe
environment and that if they are assaulted then their Board of
Governors will act in a timely manner against the perpetrators of such
violence." Mr Carlin concluded, "INTO welcomes the joint approach taken in
respect of this project. We believe that the strategic leadership given
to the parties will give confidence to those who are the victims of
violence that such matters will now be firmly dealt with".
