Special deal for teachers in school closures

INTO has called on Education Minister Caitriona Ruane MLA to exempt teachers in school closures from new pensions regulations. The Department of Education wants school rationalisation. The Bain Report recommended school rationalisation. The most recent report on Area Based Planning also stresses the need for change to take place. It is obvious that the small number teachers caught up in school amalgamations and school closures should not be subject to the financial penalties arising from them not being able to access their pensions after the age of 55.

The Irish National Teachers Organisation, INTO, welcomed the decision by the Health Minister, Mr Michael McGimpsey to offer the swine flu vaccine to teachers in special schools.

INTO visit to Montgomery County District Schools, USA

INTO has participated in an educational research visit to Montgomery County in USA, which has developed its own School Improvement Project. The Project is a model which could inspire the Northern Ireland education system.
