Special deal for teachers in school closures
Friday, 11 December 2009
Frank Bunting, Northern Secretary said:
This proposal makes sound sense. The proposed Pension regulations will mean that teachers being made redundant will in most cases not be able to access their pension benefits until they are 60. Where schools are being closed or amalgamated – which the Minister and her Department clearly wants - it is vital that employing authorities have the necessary tools to ensure this objective can be achieved. Teachers who are 55 plus who are caught up in school rationalisation should be able to get their pensions in all cases where they lose their jobs as a result of a school closure and amalgamation.
