Teachers Qualified Outside of Ireland
Qualifications Awarded in EU/EEA Countries
In accordance with EU Directive 2005/36/EC, which relates to the recognition of professional qualifications, persons who are recognised for the purposes of teaching in one EU member state, are entitled to have those qualifications recognised in all other member states. Such recognition may be granted subject to conditions, pending the making good of any shortfalls identified. The Teaching Council is the competent authority in Ireland for assessing applications for registration from persons recognised as teachers in other EU/EEA countries.
Where
applicants for registration hold qualifications awarded outside of Ireland, the
qualifications must be assessed by the Council. The purpose of this assessment
is to ensure that they are of a comparable standard to those of primary teacher
education qualifications already recognised in Ireland. Details of the process
are available here.
