Revised Paternity Leave Scheme

Teachers will be entitled to paternity leave of a period of two consecutive weeks paid leave on the birth/adoption of a child, where the date of birth/date of placement of the child falls on or after 1 September 2016.

Pay Uplift from 1 September 2016

The DES has issued Circular 0056/2016, setting out revised pay scales from 1 September 2016. These contain an uplift of €796, which will take the form of an increase in basic fortnightly pay, at all points as part-restoration of payment to recognise supervision and substitution (S&S) work.

Pay Equality Update

The INTO has been working with officials from the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform throughout the summer to progress the loss of a qualification allowance by new entrants since 2012. While progress had been made, based on the firefighters’ settlement of a similar issue, nothing has been finalised as yet.

Carer's Leave Cover

From 1 September, 2016, a non-casual substitute teacher will be employed to cover a Carer’s Leave absence and will be paid through the Online Claims System.

Review of Public Service Sick Leave Provisions

A revised sick leave scheme was introduced across the public service in 2014 (in education, from 1 September that year). A review of the scheme’s operation was provided for at the time.

Teachers Starting Employment in a New School Must Obtain a Vetting Disclosure

Teachers who will be taking up a position in a new school in the next school year will be required to obtain a vetting disclosure from National Vetting Bureau (NVB) prior to the commencement of that employment.

Public Services Card Needed to Claim Paternity Benefit
