What is INTO Professional Development?

The INTO, among its objectives seeks to afford advice and assistance to individual members on both trade union and professional matters. Over the years the INTO has developed expertise in both the theory and practice of professional development for teachers. The INTO Professional Development Unit, now known as INTO Learning, was established in 1994 in order to provide professional development courses for primary teachers on a structured, formal basis. The key principles underlying the INTO Professional Development Unit/INTO Learning and its programmes are as follows:

2.    Quality in the design and delivery guaranteed by monitoring and evaluation
3.    Accountability and cost effectiveness

INTO Learning, in drawing up its professional development programmes, seeks to meet the needs of its members in a constantly changing educational landscape. The work of INTO Learning has broadened with change. Along side the design and delivery of professional development programmes, INTO Learning activities include the production of training dvds, project management of collaborative educational programmes and resource development A key feature of all INTO Learning activities is the involvement of practicing teachers.
