Staffing Appeals Board: 2 June submission deadline

The next meeting of the Primary Staffing Appeals Board to deal with appeals for the 2023/24 school year will be held the week of 12 June 2023.

The closing date for submission of appeals for this meeting is Friday, 2 June.

There are a number of appeal grounds which include:

  • Exceptional accommodation difficulty.
  • October 2022 enrolment.
  • Projected Enrolment Post based on additional enrolments after 30 September 2023.
  • EAL support.
  • Small schools.
  • School losing three or more posts.
  • Alleviating some of the pressure on class sizes at infants’ level for schools that make a significant contribution by absorbing demographic growth.

The Department of Education previously confirmed to the INTO that schools where a significant number of new entrant pupils have been enrolled since 1 October 2022 may use the staffing appeals process to make their case for additional teachers for the 2023/24 school year.

Appeals must be submitted to Primary Teacher Allocations Section, Department of Education, Cornamaddy, Athlone, on the standard application form contained in DE Circular 0006/2023 clearly stating the criteria under which the appeal is being made.

A final meeting of the Appeals board will be held in October. The closing date will be notified on the OLCS in due course.
