INTO Press Release: Department Attacks Education Provision
Wednesday, 3 December 2014
The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation reacted strongly to the announcement by the Department of Education that budgetary cuts would result in up to 2500 job losses.
The Northern Secretary, INTO, Mr Gerry Murphy said,
“These cuts are a savage attack on frontline provision. The main losers in this will be children, teachers and non-teaching staff”.
Mr Murphy continued,
“The Department’s pressure to bring forward these redundancies shows total insensitivity and a remarkable lack of understanding of education provision. To remove 1000 or more teachers from the classroom in mid-term, as they are suggesting, exposes the fundamental flaw in the Department’s vision for education - that cost overrides the value!”
INTO will be at the forefront of resisting this attack on schools and children and we urge others to join with INTO in a campaign to resist what amounts to a savage attack on the future of our community.”
