New Education Authority Must Deliver

Friday, 27 February 2015

Ms Nuala O Donnell, Senior Official, Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), told the annual Northern Conference of the Organisation, in the Radisson Roe Hotel, Limavady that the new Education Authority must deliver for teachers and schools.

Speaking at the conference, Ms O`Donnell said,

“The new Education Authority must deliver for schools and teachers. INTO had hopes that the Education and Skills Authority would reform the education landscape. However that was not to be. From the 1st of April we will have the Education Authority and INTO will be monitoring carefully as to how it lives up to our expectations.”

Ms O`Donnell said,

“For too long schools have been starved of badly needed resources. We hope that through economies of scale and scope there can now be funds to reinvest. This has been too long in coming and the education community will continue to suffer if it does not happen.”

Concluding Ms O`Donnell said,

“This conference is about value, not cost. The new Education Authority can become a driver in this value agenda by setting out early in its lifetime a strategic framework that details the reinvestment in resources and staffing that are vitally needed and missing from our schools today.”
