Circular 16/2018 clarifies how schools should re-engage with school self-evaluation. The circular amends Circular 39/2016. Circular 16/2018 requires schools to select one or two curricular areas or aspects of teaching and learning to be the focus for SSE between March 2018 and June 2020. This circular also allows for an additional planning day in the school year 2018/19 to assist the implementation of the Primary Language Curriculum.
Circular 0039/2016 outlines timeframes and stages for school self-evaluation 2016-2020. It supersedes Circular 0039/2012 on the implementation of SSE which covered the period 2012-2016.
The DES has issued revised Guidelines to SSE replacing previous guidelines.
The DES has also produced an updated version of Looking at our School: A Quality Framework for Primary Schools, which replaces the 2003 guide to SSE Looking at Our School. Looking at Our School 2016 is designed to underpin both SSE and school inspections.
