INTO Congress 2017 in Belfast


Today is the final day of the Annual Congress of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation in Belfast.

Over the past two days of the conference, the focus has been on key issues such as pay, north and south, industrial relations and education issues of concern to teachers.

There has been lively debate by delegates on pay equality and pay restoration, pensions, school funding, promotion, school leadership, the curriculum, special needs teaching, tackling disadvantage and teacher supply. Motions will continue to be debated up to 2 pm today in both public and private session.

The INTO Congress will close with the new president taking office at 2 pm today. John Boyle from Donegal was elected to the position of president by the union’s membership last week. The new vice president of the union will be Joe Killeen from Galway.
