Catherine Mahon was INTO’s first woman President. She did huge work in recruiting teachers into the organisation and was a powerful advocate for teachers. District 15 (North Dublin) commemorated Catherine Mahon through a lecture held earlier this year as part of its “INTO 150” events.

This week, the District held a brief ceremony at Catherine Mahon’s grave in Balbriggan. District 15 had commissioned work on the stonework at the grave, and a new plaque recalling Catherine Mahon’s significant contribution to INTO in the early part of the twentieth century. Among attendees at the ceremony were District Officers, CEC Representative Shane Loftus and Síle Chuinneagáin, Mahon’s biographer.
