The Primary Language Curriculum for all four stages of primary school (junior infants to sixth class) will be launched in September 2019 and will be accompanied by a circular that will issue to all schools. The curriculum will be available online for teachers and schools to access from September 2019.
A hard copy of the curriculum for each teacher will be delivered to schools in September 2019.
A new three-year cycle of support from 2019/20 to 2021/22 will commence in September 2019. All schools will be offered a full-day seminar facilitated by PDST/NCSE, annual leadership seminars and a phased programme of sustained in-school support.
To allow schools to engage at a whole-school level, the Department is aware that both time and support are required to ensure deeper engagement and prior preparation of activities by schools to embed this new style of curriculum in the system.
