The latest results from the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) were released today. PISA takes place every three years and measures fifteen-year olds’ ability to use their reading, maths and science knowledge and skills to meet real-life challenges. In the 2018 assessments, Ireland’s fifteen-year olds scored above the OECD average in reading, maths and science, a credit to our teachers.
Ireland was among the top four performing OECD countries in reading. Irish students are also above average for equity meaning that the gender gap between boys’ and girls’ scores has narrowed since 2009.
There has been a small decline in Ireland’s performance in science, with the number of high-performing students decreasing between the 2006 and 2018 tests.
