On behalf of INTO I would like to invite you to the Annual Vere Foster lecture which is being held to commemorate the life of this great educationalist and philanthropist. Vere Foster died in Belfast in 1900 and is buried in the City Cemetery. He believed that the means to improve the condition of the people was through education and the best way to improve education was to improve the lot of teachers. Vere founded the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) and was its first President.
This year’s lecture will be delivered by Professor Siobhan O’Neill, Mental Health Champion for Northern Ireland, and is entitled:
Mental health in children and young people: the role of education
on Thursday, 20th June 2024 at 6.30pm in The Malone Hotel, Belfast.
Professor Siobhan O’Neill is a Professor of Mental Health Sciences at Ulster University. She is currently Mental Health Champion for Northern Ireland.

The winner of the Brendan Harron INTO Art Competition (2024) will be announced on the evening.
