Support for New Teachers

Your Membership of INTO

Throughout your career, INTO aims to provide you with professional advice and trade union support. You can access this support at school level through your INTO School Representative, at Branch and District level or by contacting Northern Office directly.

You will get the most out of your INTO membership by getting involved with your union.

Via our Website and Facebook or Twitter. Sign up for our E-Newsletter and make sure we have your latest contact information by updating them via our Membership Portal by clicking on the My Profile tab above.

Have Your Voice Heard

Ensure you respond to our surveys and consultations or comment on social media. Attend your local Branch meetings to raise issues to be debated at our annual Northern Conference.

Come along to INTO events including our NQT Seminar, Youth and Northern Conferences. You will get to influence INTO policy making as well as enjoying the social side of INTO membership.

Training and Development

Keep an eye out for all our training and development opportunities. We host training courses throughout the year for all INTO members. We frequently collaborate with our colleagues in the NEU and UTU and provide accredited ICTU training courses. Courses fill up fast so early booking is recommended.

Recognition of Your Talents

Each year the INTO sponsors awards to Newly Qualified Teachers in St Mary’s University College and Stranmillis University College who have completed the four-year B.Ed. Honours Degree.

Our Vere Foster Medal is presented in memory of the first President of the INTO and is awarded to the graduate with consistently high marks in School Experience.

The John Cull Medal is presented by Newry Branch of INTO in memory of our long-time activist and is awarded to the top achieving mature student across the B.Ed. degree programme.

In St Mary’s University College INTO also sponsor the Capstone Project Award. This is an individual, integrative study undertaken in the final year, which provides students with the opportunity to focus on a particular area of professional interest.
