OUTCOME OF THE INTO ON-LINE POLL
Colleagues, the following is the outcome of the INTO on-line poll:
Turnout was 74%
Those in favour of accepting the offer: 67%
Those against accepting the offer: 33%
The CEC and Northern Committee have both now considered the result and I will be contacting Management Side today to inform them that INTO will be accepting the offer. The next steps are a meeting between the NITC and Management Side on Tuesday 28th of April 2020 to have the offer ratified by the Teachers’ Negotiation Committee. INTO will then be pressing, along with our NITC colleagues, for the deal to be implemented and seeking a date to begin negotiations for the 2019/20 pay uplift.
The Northern Committee wishes to thank the members for their engagement and participation in the online process. The very large result in favour demonstrates the membership have a high degree of confidence in the Committee’s strategy for delivering pay and workload improvements. INTO will build on this and continue to deliver for the membership.

WHY IS THIS OFFER BEING PUT TO US AT THIS TIME WHEN WE ARE EXPERIENCING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC?
The NITC and INTO are acutely aware that the timing of the pay & workload offer, given the very difficult circumstances we all face, is most unfortunate and fraught with difficulty.

INTO EXPLAIN THE PAY & WORKLOAD OFFER
INTO PRESS RELEASE: 8 April 2020
PAY & WORKLOAD OFFER: 8 April 2020
On Wednesday 8th April 2020 Management Side, at a meeting of the Teachers' Negotiating Committee (TNC), formally presented the overdue offer to Trade Union Side addressing the long running dispute on Teachers’ Pay and Workload.
INTO members will finally have the opportunity, following two years of negotiation, to consider and give their verdict on the offer.
INTO has posted explanatory information on the offer on our website and social media platforms to help inform our members’ thinking.
The Northern Committee of INTO, following careful consideration, have recommended that members accept the terms of the agreement.
This offer is the first step in the process of restoring our members’ pay to the level it should be at after a decade of austerity and pay restraint. Another key element of the offer is the focus on workload and the inclusion of a range of measures to be enacted to bring about real change now for the benefit of our members. In the meantime, the agreed transition arrangements will protect members while change is made in this area.
There remains more work to be done, with a pay claim for 2019-20 to be resolved in the coming months.
In an attempt to fully garner the views of INTO members in relation to the offer, INTO will be putting in place an online poll.
Further information will be posted, in the next days, on our website in relation to the mechanics of how this information will be gathered.
It is anticipated that the online poll of members will be taken from Monday 20 April 2020 running to Wednesday 22 April 2020. Instruction in relation to this will issue shortly.
