DES Launches Campaign to Promote Teaching

As part of a review of teacher supply and of specific shortages, the DES has launched a series of information booklets, a YouTube video and radio advertisements with the aim of promoting teaching. These utilise the theme that “Teaching Transforms” and apply to teaching at both primary and post-primary levels. Advertisements and social media messages will run over the coming period, to include the lead-in to submission of CAO preferences by post-primary students.

Conditions of Employment Issues
INTO has stressed that for this initial publicity material to have real effect, conditions of employment and other policy issues must also be addressed. These affect both recruitment and retention of teachers and include pay equality and the need for supply panels to give security of employment to substitute teachers.

Some of the “Teaching Transforms” materials may be accessed on the website.
