4th November 2021
As the COP26 climate change conference today focuses on climate and education, the INTO is supporting a number of initiatives promoting awareness of climate change and other environmental issues.
Many of the activities are being co-ordinated by the global COP26 Coalition, a civil society coalition of groups including NGOs, trade unions, grassroots community campaigns, youth strikers, migrant and racial justice networks – to name a few.
While world leaders meet to discuss our future at COP26, the Global COP26 Coalition will be bringing together the climate justice movement to discuss, learn and strategies for system change. Education is crucial to promote climate action. It helps people understand and address the impacts of the climate crisis. It empowers them with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes needed to act as agents of change.
The INTO is also encouraging members to attend supporting rallies taking place all over the island of Ireland on Saturday (6 November). These have been organised by COP26 Coalition Ireland as follows:
Dublin, Parnell Square 12.00pm: marching to Dáil Éireann, Merrion Square
Belfast, Corn Market 12.00pm: marching to City Hall at 1pm for hour-long rally
Derry, Waterloo Place 2.00pm: March to Guildhall Hall Square
Cork, Grand Parade (outside the City Library), 12.00pm
Galway, Eyre Square, 12.00pm
Limerick, Bedford Row, 12.00 pm
Castlebar, Market Square 1.00pm
Waterford, John Roberts Sq, 12.00 pm
Further details can be found here.
The INTO is involved in a range of other climate change activities and urges members to engage with the campaign in some form.
