The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) is currently recruiting for two Clerical Officer positions within our Communications section.
One is a permanent position, the other is one-year, fixed term. Both roles are based at INTO Head Office in Dublin. The advertised job specifications are below.
Clerical Officer (Permanent Position – Dublin)
Digital Media/ Communications Section
The INTO is the largest teachers’ union in Ireland representing 50,000 members in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Communications Section plays a key role in ensuring that INTO members receive high-quality, timely and relevant trade union and educational material through a variety of communication channels.
The Clerical Officer (Digital Media) role will be based in our fast-paced digital media team, working within the wider communications team and under the overall management of the Assistant General Secretary/ Director of Communications and the relevant Official.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Possess excellent IT and digital media skills, with proficiency in the following applications: WordPress, Hootsuite, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, MS Office, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign.
- Operate in a fast-moving environment, delivering professional and high-quality content on a regular basis.
- Assist with the social media management of large projects, events and campaigns.
- Demonstrate excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
- Maintain effective organisational and administrative skills, prioritising workflow to meet operational objectives on a regular basis.
- Work collaboratively with team members within the communications section and across the organisation.
- Exercise sound judgement in all aspects of the work undertaken in this role.
A strong affinity for the work of the INTO and the trade union movement in general is desirable.
In respect of this role, the following specific duties will apply:
- Responsibility for regularly updating content on the INTO website and various internal extranets and platforms, providing training and support to other sections as required.
- Liaising with our external website management company to coordinate technical updates to the INTO website.
- Drafting, producing, and scheduling content for our social media channels.
- Regularly compiling website and social media analytics and providing management reports on an ongoing basis.
- Contributing to key projects within the digital media team as required.
- General secretarial and clerical duties to support the work of the section.

Clerical Officer (Temporary – 1 Year Fixed-Term Contract – Dublin)
Publications / Communications Section
The INTO is the largest teachers’ union in Ireland representing 50,000 members in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Communications Section plays a key role in ensuring that INTO members receive high-quality, timely and relevant trade union and educational material through a variety of communication channels.
The successful candidate will support the work of the publications team which produces, among other things, InTouch magazine, the Irish Teachers’ Journal, conference documents, reports, INTO’s annual wall planner, the INTO diary, member updates and INTO merchandise.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Possess an excellent work ethic with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
- Demonstrate excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
- Demonstrate a familiarity with the basics of graphic design and an interest in developing expertise in this area over time.
- Maintain excellent IT skills, preferably with proficiency in the following publications: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and PageSuite.
- Maintain effective organisational and administrative skills, prioritising workflow to meet operational objectives on a regular basis.

In respect of this role, the following specific duties will apply:
- Responsibility for preparing content for INTO publications, including layout, editing, proofreading and basic design work.
- Provision of administrative support to the team, including liaising with external vendors including An Post, preparing labels and packing lists, arranging payment/ publication copies for contributors and conducting quality control checks with schools.
- Management of INTO’s stock of publications and merchandise, including placing orders when necessary.
- Tracking income and expenditure cost control sheets in respect of various INTO publications.
- Coordinating publication of the digital version of InTouch magazine.
- Providing back-up support with e-newsletters/ advertising and other tasks as required.
