Droichead extended to Supply Panel and Principal Release Day Clusters

Following representations made by the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO), in the context of widespread teacher vacancies in primary and special schools, the Teaching Council is introducing a timebound measure to enable newly qualified teachers (NQTs) employed on supply panels or in principal release time posts, to complete the Droichead process.

As this facility makes working in these roles more attractive for NQTs, the INTO is hopeful that many of these positions, which have been vacant since the start of the school year will be filled in the coming month.

This measure will commence on Tuesday, 14 November and will remain in place for the remainder of the 2023/2024 academic year and the 2024/2025 academic year.

From next Tuesday, 14 November, primary NQTs employed on supply panels or in principal release time posts can apply for Droichead via their My Registration account.

Please see information relating to this measure, on the news page of the Teaching Council website and on the Droichead process primary page.

If you have queries about this measure, please email conditions@teachingcouncil.ie.

The INTO has shared the findings from the recent survey on teaching vacancies with Department of Education officials exhorting them to introduce a suite of measures to make teaching in primary and special schools more attractive.
