Unions demand protections for substitute teachers

Yesterday, the three teaching unions wrote to the Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh TD, to demand protections for our substitute teachers. If substitute members are not eligible to avail of the government’s temporary wage subsidy scheme, the unions have demanded that similar provision be made  for these critical workers during the current pandemic.

INTO General Secretary John Boyle raised this matter with the Minister directly this morning, outlining the challenges faced by substitute teachers and demanding a speedy resolution.
