Vacancy – Official (Conditions of Employment and Leadership) 1 Year FTC

The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation is currently recruiting for an official (fixed term position) in our Conditions of Employment and Leadership section in INTO Head Office, Dublin.

General Job description

Applications are invited for this Fixed Term position at INTO Head Office. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic, responsive and flexible team, committed to achieving INTO objectives especially in the area of direct service to members. This is a position which involves significant responsibility in relation to INTO’s work in dealing with teachers’ conditions of employment. This vacancy arises as a result of a career break in the Conditions of Employment and Leadership section and initial duties will be in that Section. However, flexibility is a key requirement and the capacity to work across all sections of the office is essential. The Official will carry out such duties as may be assigned by the relevant Assistant General Secretary and/or General Secretary.

Initial duties and responsibilities assigned will involve:

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of INTO policy and assisting in the development of services to members.
  • Maintaining a detailed and up to date knowledge of teachers’ conditions of employment issues, in particular those related to pay, pensions and general financial matters.
  • Advising members on conditions of employment, trade union and professional matters.
  • Representing and liaising on behalf of members with other agencies such as Department of Education and Skills, management bodies and other trade unions.
  • Responding to members’ queries via telephone, email and correspondence.
  • Undertaking research and preparing documentation for publication and presentation.
  • Such other duties which may be assigned by the General Secretary.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Up to date knowledge of the INTO and an understanding of current issues in education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An up to date proficiency in IT, with an emphasis on Excel and data management.
  • A commitment to working effectively in a team environment.
  • High standards of research, writing and presentation skills.
  • A minimum of five years’ relevant professional experience.
  • An appropriate third level qualification.
  • An ability to provide a quality service to individuals and groups of members.
  • A results driven approach.
  • A willingness to participate in CPD.

The successful appointee will enter into a detailed Fixed Term contract of employment with INTO.

Vacancy – Official (Communications) 1 Year FTC

The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation is currently recruiting for an official (fixed term position) in our Communications section in INTO Head Office, Dublin.

INTO’s communications team ensures members and employees are kept up to date with union developments, promotes the voice of the membership externally and delivers high-profile campaigns, publications and events.

The temporary official will have a third level qualification and a minimum of five years’ relevant professional and practical experience.

The successful candidate will play a role in coordinating various workstreams within the communications team, taking responsibility for delivering key projects and playing a leading role scaling up our communication capability in the coming year (September 2021 to August 2022).

This is a senior position within the team reporting to the Assistant General Secretary/ Director of Communications.

This key strategic role will involve:

  • Managing, developing and producing a wide range of external communications materials, including reports, press materials and content for digital media.
  • Planning, producing and executing digital marketing campaigns, website copy, SEO/SEM, email, social media and display advertising.
  • Measuring and reporting performance of all digital marketing campaigns, and assessing against INTO goals (Return on Investment and Key Performance Indicators).
  • Brainstorming new and creative growth strategies for INTO’s digital and internal communication channels, evaluating emerging technologies and providing thought leadership and perspective for adoption within the union where appropriate.
  • Supporting the development and upskilling of INTO staff, officers, local media coordinators and local member groups, guiding and supporting use of digital media and internal communication.
  • Servicing print and broadcast media, responding to media queries and supporting INTO spokespersons participating in media interviews. The successful candidate will be required to support our on-call press office rota outside of normal working hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Provision of expert media advice to staff, including assisting them in: writing materials for the media, identifying media opportunities, generating media coverage and servicing the media.
  • Create and maintain internal communications protocols to support external media and member relations.
  • Undertake or commission research and gather and analyse data and information to support the drafting of press releases, member communication, speeches and other communication materials.
  • Keep up to date with social, political and economic developments through media scanning, government and civil society/ think tank reports, and be able to provide relevant advice to senior management, stakeholders and decision makers within the INTO.
  • Write briefings, reports, speeches and deliver oral briefings and presentations.
  • Support the promotion a positive image of the INTO and the primary teaching profession in the media locally and nationally.
  • Such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the General Secretary.

Required Competencies:

  • Excellent work ethic, capacity to act on own initiative within overall line management structure, and a positive ‘can do’ attitude and approach to work.
  • A strong academic background and appropriate professional experience.
  • Effective analytical, reporting and project management skills.
  • Strong social media skills.
  • A thorough understanding of current issues in education and industrial relations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience of producing press releases, copywriting and delivering presentations.
  • Experience of external and internal communications management.
  • A results-driven approach with evidence of being innovative and energetic.
  • Willingness to work flexibly including when required/requested outside of normal working hours.

The successful candidate will enter into a detailed contract of employment with the INTO.
