INTO joins fundraising appeal for Ukraine

The INTO members’ Christmas appeal this year, forms part of an ICTU/IBEC initiative in aid of Ukrainians affected by the war in their country.

The appeal, ‘An Hour for Ukraine’, invites members to donate the equivalent of one hour’s pay to support the relief efforts of the Irish Red Cross and UNICEF Ireland.

Any amount can be donated but there is a guidance figure of €40 (based on the casual hourly rate) in the Republic of Ireland and £35 for members in Northern Ireland.

The campaign is running on an all-island basis with the goal of raising at least €25,000.

This year’s appeal implements a resolution passed at INTO Congress 2022 directing the union to support the ICTU/IBEC initiative to donate one hour’s wages to provide humanitarian aid in the Ukraine.

The union is encouraging members to make their donation, through the idonate platform.

All monies raised will be transferred to the ICTU Ukraine Fund when the appeal concludes.

INTO President John Driscoll said:

I am acutely aware of the pressure our members are under due to high inflation, but teachers have always shown a generosity of spirit professionally and personally towards those less fortunate than ourselves. I have no doubt our members will answer the call again for this year’s Christmas appeal.

I appreciate the guidance figure may be more than some of our members can afford but I urge everyone to donate what they can.”

Head office is managing the INTO idonate account and Mazars Consulting are independent overseers of the ICTU/IBEC account where the INTO funds will ultimately be deposited.
