At the recent INTO Education Conference in Tullamore the recipients of this years INTO Bursary Scheme awards were announced.
Darragh McCloskey a member of District 2 and the Limavady/Dungiven branch was awarded a bursary to assist him in his research for his master’s programme through St Mary’s University College, Belfast.
Darragh is a teacher in St Colmcille’s Primary and Nursery School, Claudy, Co. Derry.
His study is entitled ‘The flipped classroom model in teaching mathematics in a Primary 7 class.’
Darragh explained in his presentation to conference what the ‘flipped classroom’ concept meant in practical terms for him as a practitioner and also for the engagement with home for sharing the learning in advance. He then went on to explain his work on the high order thinking and inquiry-based learning which was adopted in the classroom for a more active student-centred approach to the topic at hand.
We look forward to the final report of his study and the future publications on the matter.

The INTO Bursary Scheme is launched every year post Congress.
The INTO Bursary Scheme for members will award up to six bursaries awarded worth €3,000 for doctorate level and €1,500 for master’s level/other.
Bursaries are open to all INTO members, North and South.
