The Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) is now recruiting for two temporary roles in the Conditions of Employment and Leadership section and the Legal and Industrial Relations section. Details of the two roles are provided below.

Official, Legal and Industrial Relations Section

Overview of the role
Applications are invited for a temporary (Fixed Term contract) Official position in the INTO.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic team, committed to achieving the INTO’s objectives and supporting members on legal and industrial relation matters, providing practical support to members by way of advising on queries and representing members in a wide range of employment related matters. The temporary Official will carry out such duties as may be assigned by the Assistant General Secretary/ Director of Legal and Industrial Relations and/or Senior Official, under the overall direction of the General Secretary.
The successful candidates will have:
- A relevant third level qualification and a minimum of five years’ professional experience
- A thorough understanding of current educational, legal and industrial relations issues affecting members
- A strong understanding of the INTO and its key priorities
- Excellent work ethic, capacity to act on own initiative within overall line management structure, and a positive “can do” attitude and approach to work
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including commitment to work effectively and co-operatively in a team environment
- Excellent oral communication skills, including the capacity to present cases effectively on behalf of INTO members and address various groups within the INTO, for example at seminars and/or union meetings
- Excellent drafting and editing skills, including the ability to write to a very high standard
- Strong organisational and time management skills including the capacity to manage priorities and deadlines calmly and in a competent manner
- Project management skills to ensure that a task is taken through all necessary stages to successful completion
- Proficient IT and research skills
- Willingness to work flexibly including when required/requested outside of normal working hours
- Commitment to providing a quality service to INTO members and contributing to the progress of INTO objectives, policies and services
- Capacity and willingness to work across all departments of the office if so, assigned by the General Secretary
You are required to hold a valid full driving licence and to continue to hold such a licence during your employment with INTO. You are required to have a car available for your use on INTO business. Travel and Subsistence rates are paid in accordance with Public Service rates and conditions.

Overview of the role
Applications are invited for the role of temporary Official in the Conditions of Employment and Leadership section. This is a fixed-term position to 31 Dec. 2024. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic, responsive and flexible team, committed to achieving INTO objectives especially in the area of direct service to members. This is a position which involves significant responsibility in relation to INTO’s work in dealing with teachers’ conditions of employment.
Required Competencies
- A strong academic background and a minimum of five years’ relevant professional experience.
- A comprehensive knowledge of the INTO to drive the delivery of the union’s key priorities.
- A thorough understanding of current educational, industrial relations and school leadership issues.
- Experience and expertise in negotiating and handling complex industrial relations issues.
- A commitment to working effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills and an ability to build, maintain and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
- High standards of research, policy development, presentation and project management skills.
- Leadership capacity and the ability to assist in supporting and developing a team of people to deliver a reliable and quality service for INTO members.
- Proficient IT and research skills.
- A commitment to continuously develop knowledge and skills.
- A results-driven approach with evidence of being innovative, energetic and flexible in advancing strategy.
