NITC receive Pay Offer – 11 March 2024

NITC Receive Pay Offer

The Northern Ireland Teachers’ Council (NITC) today considered a draft agreement from Management Side with a pay offer which has the potential to bring a settlement to the ongoing pay dispute.

The out working of this agreement would lead to a significant increase to the starting salary for teachers and an uplift in teachers’ and school leaders pay from 1st September 2023.

The constituent members of the NITC have agreed to consult members in the coming week, with a view to responding to the offer by Tuesday 26th March 2024.

Jacquie White, General Secretary UTU said;

“This pay offer, coming at the end of 3 years of inactivity, is greatly welcomed. It represents a significant step forward in the restoration of salary, a step which has been delivered by our members across the profession standing together for what they deserve. UTU will be recommending that members accept the offer with a view to moving forward and beginning to address the range of other issues faced by the system.”

Justin McCamphill, NASUWT National Official for Northern Ireland said;

 “This agreement has come about as a result of teachers and school leaders standing together on the picket line and resolutely following action short of strike action. The NASUWT are calling on our members to endorse this agreement. Pay restoration remains at the top of our agenda and we look forward to the commencement of negotiations for September 2024.”

Graham Gault, National Secretary of the NAHT, said;

“The formal offer from the employing authorities is very welcome, and represents the culmination of a significant period of engagement following a protracted industrial campaign. NAHT will consult fully with members on the details of the offer in the coming days.”

Mark McTaggart, INTO Northern Secretary said;

“This offer has come about as a result of the resolute action of teachers and school leaders through 18 months of industrial action. INTO would call on members to accept this agreement, as it represents a step towards restoration of teachers and school leaders pay going forward. The NITC will continue to work together for full pay restoration, beginning with the negotiation around a pay settlement for September 2024.”

Pauline Buchanan Regional Secretary of NEU said;

 “This pay offer has been a long time coming. However, we are pleased to have achieved a double digit pay offer for all members and to have raised the bar on pay for new teachers. Recruiting and retaining teachers is vital in enriching the educational experience of all our children, this pay award is a step towards better recognition of the value of education and educators in Northern Ireland.”
