INTO welcomes additional special needs assistants for schools

The INTO has welcomed the appointment of additional special needs assistants to primary schools to meet increased enrolments of children with special needs. The union also welcomed the timing of the announcement which gives schools time to start an appointment process where this is required.

“Today’s announcement will allow new appointments to be made for September when children start school, something that was not always the case in previous years,” said a spokesperson for the INTO.

Today’s announcement represents a 7% increase in the number of SNAs bringing the number of SNAs in primary schools to 7,709, an increase of 470 on the end of this school year.
