Release Time for Principal Teachers in Primary Schools

The DES has published Circular 0012/2016 which sets out increases to the number of days that teaching principals may take as release time in a school year commencing from the 2016/17 school year.

INTO members overwhelmingly back call for ban on school self-evaluation

Members of the INTO have overwhelmingly backed a call from the CEC for industrial action in response to the continued ban on promotion in schools and increasing workload for teachers.

Further extension to the ‘grace period’ for superannuation benefits in respect of teachers

 The DES has confirmed the government decision to further extend the ‘Grace Period’.

New induction process for teachers announced

A number of significant changes to Droichead have been announced by the Teaching Council today (2 March 2016). The changes will see a process of induction for newly qualified teachers replacing the previous process of probation.
