Supply teachers play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards in the teaching and learning process, as well as providing efficiency of service and maintaining safety in schools.
The INTO continue to secure improved working conditions and entitlements for supply teachers.
In Northern Ireland, the arrangements for deploying supply teachers in schools are the subject of agreement with Employers and the INTO and as a result, Supply teachers:
- are employed in accordance with Northern Ireland teachers’ pay and conditions of service.
- are members of the Northern Ireland Teachers’ Pension Scheme (NITPS).
- are registered on the Northern Ireland Supply Teachers’ Register (NISTR).
- are registered with the General Teaching Council (GTCNI).
