Bus operators are required by law to ensure their buses are roadworthy and meet a number of explicit requirements including:
- having appropriate preventative maintenance regimes, daily walk-around vehicle checks and swift repair of defects
- ensuring their buses are tested on-time, and
- completing a declaration in respect of their buses to the Road Safety Authority
These obligations are in place to ensure buses on our roads are safe at all times. When schools are engaging transport providers, the Road Safety Authority advises that they be vigilant and seek
assurances from the provider that they comply with all relevant legal obligations.
To assist with this, the RSA recommends that transport providers are asked to complete this Declaration of Compliance which contains a checklist of key legal minimum requirements
