Frequently asked questions
I am participating in the school-based summer programme. What will my rate of pay be and when will I receive it?
Qualified teachers who participate in the school-based summer programme will be paid at the non-casual substitute rate for their work. An individual teacher’s gross daily rate can be calculated by dividing gross annual salary by 182 (gross annual salary is determined by the individual teacher’s scale point). Participating schools will utilise the Department’s Esinet system to submit claims. Claims will be processed on an ongoing basis during the summer; generally, all teachers can expect to receive their payment no later than September.
What is the rate of pay for working as a tutor in the home-based summer programme and when is payment made?
The gross hourly rate for the 2025 home-based summer programme is €49.69. There is a modified rate of €42.37 per hour for PME student teacher registered with the Teaching Council under Route 3 and undergraduate student teachers registered with the Teaching Council under Route 5. Payment is made by the DEY on a rolling fortnightly basis, usually commencing in September. It is vital to adhere to the weekly and overall thresholds in terms of the number of hours that can be worked.
