Equality legislation (Employment Equality Act 1998 and Equal Status Act) is in place to prevent employees and service users being discriminated against on the following 9 grounds
- Gender
- Civil status
- Family status
- Sexual orientation
- Religion
- Age
- Disability
- Race (includes race, colour, nationality or ethnic or national origins)
- Membership of the Travelling Community
INTO members applying for employment or promotion within the education system cannot be discriminated against on any of these grounds. Nor can members be discriminated against on these grounds with regard to applying for job-sharing, career break, family leave entitlements etc
If any member feels that they are being discriminated against they should make contact with INTO immediately.
