The lived workplace experiences of LGBT+ teachers in Irish schools

This docufilm features INTO LGBT+ members discussing their experiences in our schools. Its production was supported by a grant from the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission. It can be a useful starting point for a whole staff discussion on changes that could be made to create a more inclusive LGBT+ school.

Many LGBT+ teachers feel that they cannot be open about their sexuality and gender identity in our schools. Many LGBT+ teachers feel that they may be discriminated against on grounds of their sexual orientation when it comes to employment and promotion opportunities. You can read more about the experiences of our LGBT+ colleagues and other LGBT+ related issues that we gathered through research among our members in this Equality Survey Report: LGBT+ Inclusion (INTO 2020)

The INTO LGBT+ Teachers’ Group provides a support and advice forum for INTO members who identify as LGBT+. The INTO will provide legal advice and support to any LGBT+ teacher who feels that have been directly or indirectly discriminated against.
